COMO SE HIZO
La idea detrás de este proyecto de fotografía editorial de belleza era crear cierta atmósfera gráfica minimalista, impactante, con sólo tres colores. Esta sencillez permitiría centrarse en los labios rojos, clásico de temporada. Una de las claves para alcanzar el resultado deseado fue, sin duda, la modelo. No sólo era necesario que sus rasgos fueran muy marcados para reforzar el aspecto gráfico, sino que supiera qué hacer con ellos. Cuando se abrió la puerta y saludo, vi que había acertado en el casting….
Un buen casting es básico en cualquier proyecto y más en fotografía editorial de belleza. Quiero recalcar esta obviedad, ya que aún hay personas que piensan que un buen fotógrafo convertirá a una modelo mediocre en una top. En mi experiencia esto no lo he visto, aunque si he visto lo contrario. Un mal casting puede hacer que el grupo no funcione y el resultado se resienta.
En este caso contamos con Thara. Mi buen amigo Jonathan de Two Management en Barcelona me avisó cuando supo que estaría un par de semanas en Barcelona. El sabe que además de trabajos comerciales algunas revistas me encargan editoriales de belleza o moda. Cuando va a llegar una buena modelo o alguien con potencial en Barcelona es tan amable de avisarme. Realmente él, y otros booker de las mejores agencias de Barcelona, me hacen un favor al enviarme a sus incorporaciones. Parte de mi trabajo es estar al día de quien está en la ciudad y distinguir su potencial. Sólo puedo estar agradecido de que me tengan en cuenta y recibir sus avisos unos días antes de su llegada.
Volviendo a Thara lo que me gusto de su portfolio digital es que sus imágenes parecían retratos mas que fotos de modelo. Nada posado, muy natural, pero con una mirada intensa. En muchos portfolios se ven imágenes muy producidas, ya que se trata de mostrar trabajos. En su caso se notaba que es un portfolio corto, pero muy emocional. No necesariamente sonriendo o saltando… todo muy frontal y directo, sin artificio. Eso me gusto, me hizo pensar que entendería la sencillez de forma natural y que se sentiría cómoda sin “nada que hacer”
Cuando en una sesión pides no posar se genera una sensación de desconcierto. ¿Qué hago entonces? Intento ponerme en el lugar de la modelo, estas en un lugar desconocido, con gente desconocida. El fotógrafo busca una imagen que no sabes cual es y de pronto te dicen “se tu, no poses” Creo que para algo así hay que valer.
Pues eso vi, cuando abrí la puerta y Thara entro, sin hacer ruido pero haciéndose notar y dispuesta a brillar.
HOW IT WAS MADE
The idea behind this beauty editorial photography project was to create a certain minimalist graphic atmosphere, striking, with only three colors. This simplicity would allow to focus on the red lips, a seasonal classic. One of the keys to achieving the desired result was, without a doubt, the model. Not only was it necessary for her features to be very strong to reinforce the graphic aspect, but for her to know what to do with them. When she opened the door and said hello, I saw that she had got the casting right….
A good casting is basic in any project and more so in editorial beauty photography. I want to emphasize this obvious, since there are still people who think that a good photographer will turn a mediocre model into a top. In my experience I have not seen this, although I have seen the opposite. A bad casting can make the group not work and the result suffers.
In this case we have Thara. My good friend Jonathan from Two Management in Barcelona told me when he learned that he would be in Barcelona for a couple of weeks. He knows that in addition to commercial work, some magazines commission me to publish beauty or fashion editorials. When a good model or someone with potential is going to arrive in Barcelona, it is so kind to let me know. Actually he, and other bookers from the best agencies in Barcelona, are doing me a favor by sending me their incorporations. Part of my job is keeping up to date with who is in the city and distinguishing its potential. I can only be grateful that they take me into account and receive their notices a few days before their arrival.
Returning to Thara, what I liked about her digital portfolio is that her images seemed more like portraits than model photos. Nothing posed, very natural, but with an intense look. In many portfolios highly produced images are seen, since it is about showing works. In his case, you could see that it is a short portfolio, but very emotional. Not necessarily smiling or jumping … all very frontal and direct, without artifice. I liked that, it made me think that I would understand simplicity naturally and that I would feel comfortable with «nothing to do»
When you ask not to pose in a session, a feeling of bewilderment is generated. What do I do then? I try to put myself in the place of the model, you are in an unknown place, with unknown people. The photographer looks for an image that you don’t know what it is and suddenly they tell you “be you, don’t pose” I think that for something like that you have to be worth it.
Well, I saw that, when I opened the door and Thara entered, without making a noise but making herself noticed and ready to shine.
